Julie was born in San Jose, California, but went to high school in Kents Hill, Maine. She attended her freshman year at the University of California at Santa Barbara, but the call of the wild was too strong. She took time off, got a job as a waitress in Los Gatos, California and rented a small cottage behind Lexington Reservoir which was owned by an 80 year old man who lived in the big house with his elderly mother. Julie would regularly ride her horse over the mountain, through the novitiate vineyard, down into the streets of Los Gatos for coffee. Her horse Billy Jack would wait outside tied to a rail.
Julie returned to college and earned her degree in Philosophy at the University of California at Santa Cruz and never left. She has worked in the Laboratory at Dominican Hospital for 18 years, while raising her family. Julie was a seamstress, baker, cook and team bench warmer. Now that all four children are properly ushered into adulthood, Julie has resumed her passion for the written word.
The strong desire to be out in the backcountry has continued and grown over the years. Julie spends as much time horse camping, hiking, snowboarding, swimming in the ocean and doing just about anything that can be done outside. Through writing, Julie hopes to encourage people to seek the magic of the natural world in any and every way.
Julie’s first novel, Cole Creek, is the tale of three generations of women who find themselves in a high Sierra odyssey. Natural forces combine with the power of ritual to strengthen the women in their quests to find strength, hope and redemption.
Living most of the time in Santa Cruz, California, Julie also lives just north of Mackay, Idaho in the incredible Big Lost River Valley.
Julie is married to Tim Morley and has four grown children, Genavieve, Eva, Jack and Cole.
